    American Kensho

    This is a Kickstarter for a film series I’m working on with a group of wildly talented other individuals called American Kensho, and its primary exploration is one of the potential connections between queerness and mysticism. All the films will star queer protagonists and feature some notion of mystical realities.

    As I discuss further at the end of the trailer, my thoughts on the subject are as follows:

    Queerness as both a symbol and a practice confronts the heteronormative subject with its own rigid incompleteness and blind fragmentation, its own ignorance of Totality. In this way, queerness is innately mystical.

    I would be immensely grateful for any exposure you could offer on your blog. It certainly ventures into the abstract in some ways, but it also comes from the lived experience of two queer creators, so it’s something we’re very passionate about.

His stand up comedy show, D’FunQT is coming to Dixon Place in NYC in July. D’FunQT is about growing up transgender in a first-generation Sri Lankan American immigrant family. He is fucking hilarious, and I can guarantee there’s nothing else out there like it. He has also gone above and beyond the call of duty for me as his intern, helping me develop my own work as a comedian and genderqueer person of color.  D’Lo has to pack the house for all six shows in order to make any money. I know a ton of people on Tumblr would really love his show, so can we help him out?
